Last post I begun sharing the beginning of the presentation I gave to coaches on the Scholar Program. This second part is focussed on what can go wrong and who we can address things:

This was a slide to show the simple shift in breathing mechanics, based on the movement of the ribcage / sternum and the resultant cascade impact it can have on the core.

Followed by a pretty common postural position that is a result of poor breathing mechanics – and how this impacts muscles key for movement.

I’ve changed the order (on reflection) as I think this is a very valuable slide to look at, in terms of recognising the nuances and subtleties around what a breathing issue could be – when an athlete is running. I’ve had experience with the Juniors I coach, whereby I have been presented with what appears both EILO and EIB – prioir to looking at this I was unaware of the difference just was surprised at the speed of recovery of the first child in comparison to the second.
Next I’ll post my flow charts on how I have begun to approach dealing with faulty breathing and slotting in breath work into running.
