What running means to me
A chance to challenge myself and keep fit. To stay slim, ultimately to enter races and race myself to better things, and perhaps times.
Favourite place to run
The Peak District National Park has some fabulous routes both flat trails and hills and fields and everything in between. Kinder Scout and back is a good run from our house (14 miles).
Fave memory
Possibly Back to back 10k followed by half marathon PBs. Getting to my 10k race via two train journeys and a 4 mile bike ride. Then doing the half the next day thinking I would blow up then never did.
But also-completing the Grtistone Grind (35 mile race from Kidsgrove to Disley along the gritstone trail) in crocs.
Why running matters
Ultimately the incredible wellbeing resulting from running. Probably also because I can still do it and be competitive (its a sport where fitness won’t necessarily go away just because I am 50+). Races are also important-not just the big ones-but the local races, the strange routes, particularly off road/fell races are very enjoyable.
Running plans for future
Would love to do a half marathon in under 90 mins. Have both Cardiff half and Manchester marathon back to back weeks so busy training. Beyond that-probably main goal is to just get as much distance as possible this year and enter a load more shorter fun races.
