I’ve had a good start to 2024, coming into the year fit, healthy and positive. This isn’t always the case – but my mind blurs from one previous year to another when I reflect back. I do know that this year has felt different. That in itself is enough – as at the moment that is all that really matters.
I started this year as I have the last few, re-reading my gratitude journal to reflect on the year that’s passed. I re-read my goals / aspirations I had written out at the start of 2023 and there was a mixed bag in terms of what I had achieved and what I hadn’t. The overriding thought was to keep things simpler. Do what I am already doing better, in more depth, with more attention or intention and let growth happen as an offshoot of this. It’s not that I was unhappy with my year or what had happened, more that I felt simplifying or really engaging with less would lead to more. We’ll see on this front as the year unfolds.
Some of the things that I have written down as aspirations for 2024:
- Stay running fit and healthy all year. This something I’ve failed to do for at least the last 5 years. Hopefully protein supplements will be the final piece to rest / exercise that I have been lacking. It feels that way over the last 8-9 weeks
- Finish the Snowdon 100km. I entered this as I don’t know if I will finish it, have no experience of training for something so different to road marathons and am hoping this combination keeps me from taking it too easy (overconfidence). The best thing that came out of Boston was the humbling I experienced. This an incredibly valuable lesson
- Ensure all the juniors have fun at every session that they come to – so running is something that they look forward to doing, a safe space that lets them escape and lose themselves away from life outside. Everything else is secondary.
- Take part in 10 races across the year.
- Seaswim twice a week all year.
- Grow herbs in the garden successfully
- Take and finish Helen Hall’s running course & one more Gary Ward course.
- Read 6 fiction books.
- Meditate daily
- Cold water daily
- Jen – support, love, listen, care for.
If I achieve all of above then I will have had a good, successful year.
