- It’s better to introduce regular strength training in my running. Having developed pretty sore achilles tendons (again) in both legs I don’t think I can avoid replacing some of my easy running with general leg strength. I’m certain the achilles tendon pain is coming from overwork here, due to a lack of work elsewhere. Common parlance has strength really dropping off as you age. Being nearly 50 qualifies for muscle strength dropping. We’ll see how this goes.
- Flexibility is hard. Having stumbled across a new type of stretching (Makka Ho) I’ve been good at trying this twice a day, for around 4 minutes. It involves 4 stretches, all of which I’m finding almost impossible to do as the old Japanese man who developed this did – but I have noticed a definite improvement in this and intend to continue.
- Principles vs Routine – something I listened to this week around routines and rigidity really stuck. Whilst I find routine very important, to be held a slave to them isn’t helpful. Thinking about a principle behind the routine and sticking to this seems a far better and supportive method of approaching things.
- How to create mental well being for the children in school? 4 ideas so far (journalling, breathing, movement, wellness board) which I shall pursue.
- Do less but do it better. I think of of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s quotes. This something that really applies to the weekend. Work out what I want to do, don’t try to do too much and do that well.
- I’m genuinely happy, not resenting / worrying about what I can’t do is so powerful as I engage so much more in what I am doing or can do.
